August 29 is the Day of Remembrance of the Ukrainian Defenders of Ukraine who died in the struggle for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
With this date is associated one of the most tragic moments of war before the full-scale invasion, the withdrawal of Ukrainian soldiers from the encirclement near Ilovaisk in 2014. At the time the Russian leadership, as usual, broke their word: the Ukrainian troops were shot while leaving the encirclement through the so-called " green corridor". Their path lay through sunflower fields, so the sunflower became a traditional symbol of this day.
The Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 opened a new page of heroism and, unfortunately, Ukraine's tragic losses in the struggle for sovereignty and unity.
We pay tribute to Ukrainian soldiers for their courage and resilience. We thank our heroes for defending Ukraine.
