Ukraine is interested to cooperate with Korea in order to create high-speed railway traffic in Ukraine. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov during a meeting with the Representative of the President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae-oh, which was held on August 17.

The Prime Minister stressed that Ukraine and Korea have experience of working towards the introduction of high-speed railway traffic: within preparation for the European Football Championship 2012 Hyundai high-speed trains were purchased.

At the same time Mykola Azarov underlined that our state is capable to produce high-quality high-speed trains. Thus, considerable financial resources were invested into the reconstruction of Kryukov railway car building works JSC which is one of the largest domestic manufacturers of vehicles, especially railway rolling stock.

The Prime Minister informed the members of the Korean delegation that Kryukov railway car building works has developed an interregional high-speed dual-system electric train, testing of which is under completion now. This high-speed train can run railways of domestic and European standard.

"High-speed train designed by Kryukov railway car building works, constructed within the parameters of our power lines, our railways, climate, etc. That’s why we bet on a trains of domestic production" - the Prime Minister said.

MykolaAzarov noted that the development of Ukrainian-Korean cooperation in that matter should include both the experience of Korea and the experience of Ukraine. "We are interested in developing cooperation, including the introduction of high-speed railway traffic. But it must be joint projects. Let’s address this issue in this way. It is very important" - the PM said.

He added that the introduction in Ukraine of high-speed railway communication will give citizens an alternative to air travel: citizens will be able to get by train from one site to another just in an hour or two. "Each regional center of Ukraine has airports. For example, the distance from Poltava to Kyiv is 350 km. If high-speed train runs this distance in an hour, we will save on air communication. For us, this idea is very promising", - Mykola Azarov said.

In turn, Mr. Lee Jae-oh said that Korea is ready to cooperate. In particular, it offers a co-production of high-speed trains in Ukraine, the construction of high-speed railways of inter-regional and inter-state communication. Korea is also interested in participating in the construction of LNG terminal and “electronic government” in Ukraine, etc.
