October 9-11, 2018, the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate was held in Istanbul. The official announcement by the Secretariat of the Synod regarding the decisions adopted on church affairs of Ukraine was published (link below).

In connection with the results of the Synod Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine in his statement stressed that the decision on the granting of autocephaly to Ukraine was adopted. The Head of State stressed that the Ukrainian authorities guarantee that the religious freedom for believers of all denominations will be respected.

The Head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Kyiv Patriarchate), Filaret and the Head of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church Macarius and their followers have been canonically renewed to their hierarchical or priestly rank.
