On January 20, 2021 the international webinar «Learning cities», organized by the Korean Association of Lifelong Cities, took place.
The event was attended by scientists from Sumy State University, in particular, the Head of Oleg Balatsky Academic and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management T. Vasylyeva and Head of the Department of International Economic Relations Y. Petrushenko.
Ukrainian scientists presented their own achievements in the field of lifelong learning, including approaches to the implementation of the «third» mission of the university, which is a positive impact on the socio-economic environment of its operation, introduction of mentoring and «professional development voucher» as a system of skills accumulation, innovative experience of dual training, creation of non-formal training programs during pandemic and involvement of employers in the development of such programs.
The participants of the webinar agreed to further strengthen the cooperation on popularization of the concept of learning cities and scientific substantiation of effective ways of its implementation in the terms of the COVID-19.
For reference: The UNESCO Global Network of Learning cities was established by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning in accordance with the Beijing Declaration (2013). Its goal is to assist communities in empowering individuals with lifelong learning and, as a result, social cohesion and economic growth of cities, regions and countries. The network helps to develop dialogue between cities in matters of policy, their mutual learning, promotes the establishment of ties and partnerships, and provides capacity development as well as elaboration of incentives.
The member-cities of the network receive unique opportunities to improve lifelong learning through political dialogue and mutual learning, development of partnerships, promotion of positive results of the implementation of its development plans through UNESCO information channels.
The cities in the Republic of Korea are the world leaders in implementing the concept of learning cities.
In 2020 with the assistance of scientists from Sumy State University an application for Sumy city to join the network of learning cities was submitted. The accession is expected in 2021.
