Ambassador of Ukraine
Dmytro Ponomarenko, in an article for the Mongolian media outlet
Sonin.mn, spoke about the mass abduction of Ukrainian children by Russia and called on Mongolia to join the International Coalition for their return.
In the publication, the Ambassador emphasized that about 20,000 Ukrainian children were illegally deported to russia, where they are being changed their citizenship, placed in foster families, and prevented from returning, which is part of a genocidal policy against Ukraine.
Key messages:
-
At least 380 Ukrainian children have been placed under so-called ''temporary guardianship'' (illegally adopted) in russia.
-
In total, over 500 people and organizations in russia fall under the term "kidnappers" of Ukrainian children.
-
The systematic, large-scale and premeditated forced displacement and deportation of Ukrainian children bear all the hallmarks of a state policy deliberately enacted. This horrific practice, which began with the occupation of Crimea in 2014, is not only a blatant violation of international law but also a calculated assault on Ukrainian society and its future.
-
In response to the problem of such magnitude, the Bring Kids Back UA platform was initiated by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
-
We hope that Mongolia will join the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children. We are confident that Mongolia’s participation will help coordinate global efforts and contribute to the global understanding that children must be returned to their homeland, and their rights must be protected.
