On November 29, in the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea we opened the exhibition “Laces of memory” by the Ukrainian artist Daria Alyoshkina.
The exhibition is dedicated to one of the most tragical events in Ukraine’s history – a man-made famine policy used by the Soviet regime against the people of Ukraine in 1932-1933, called Holodomor-genocide.
The project consists of thematic Vytynanka (papercut, Ukrainian decorative art) panels based on the memories shared by Holodomor’s
survivors.
Nine decades ago, millions of Ukrainians lost their lives because of man-made famine. Due to the ongoing russian war against Ukraine, hundreds of millions of people in Africa and Asia may suffer from the destruction of agricultural infrastructure and the blockade of Ukrainian grain exports by russia.
The international community shouldn’t repeat the mistakes of the past and russia must be prevented from committing war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. Unpunished evil and unacknowledged mistakes return on a worse scale.
We would like to thank our co-organizers in Ukraine and Korea – the National Museum of Holodomor-Genocide of Ukraine and the Hon. Cho Jeong-Sik, MP, Chairman of the Korea-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea as well as to our colleagues from the diplomatic missions in Korea, who commemorated the millions of Ukrainians starved to death together with us.
The exhibition will be open for viewers till December 2, 2022.
