On the occasion of Europe Day, the Ambassador of Ukraine Dmytro Ponomarenko together with the EU Ambassador María Castillo Fernández discussed with “JoongAng Ilbo” the role of Ukraine, the EU, and South Korea in strengthening peace and global partnerships amid russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine. In their joint interview, they emphasized the importance of international solidarity and the defense of democratic values in today’s world.
Key Ukraine Ambassador’s comments:
- The war has clearly shown who our true friends and enemies are. We remain open to genuine peace talks. If Russia agrees to a meaningful ceasefire lasting 30 to 90 days - rather than a one-day publicity stunt - there is a real possibility for dialogue.
- russia and North Korea denied the deployment of North Korean troops for over a year, only to later admit it. This shows that both countries are untrustworthy.
- The recently signed minerals agreement is a clear signal that the U.S.-Ukraine relationship is both sustainable and successful. It sends a strong message to Russia that the U.S. is committed to protecting its interests in Ukraine, and we hope this becomes a stepping stone toward peace.
